The Texas-based independent publisher has turned into a big fish. Listed on the stock market, Devolver Digital has, 13 years after its creation, the interest of several renowned investors.

It is November 4, 2021 and, as expected, Devolver Digital has gone public. Appearing on the London market AIM (Alternative Investment Market), the American independent game publisher is valued at $ 950 million (approximately € 813 million).

A consecration for this company which started by taking care of Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter and has since forged a solid catalog. She has supported titles like Hotline Miami, Shadow Warrior, The Messenger, My Friend Pedro or Death’s Door. Next year, we’ll find her behind Weird West.

To prepare for the future

Naturally, the event was addressed directly by Devolver on its official website, in the “Propaganda” section. Once you’ve forgotten that the game is serious, the communication keeps a very light tone:

In 2009, a handful of us sat down in Austin, Texas to launch a new video game label that would embrace the fun of video games and never let go. The label would invite developers from around the world to join a team of enthusiasts whose sole objective is to make their artistic vision a reality.

Since then, we like to think we’ve done just that. Devolver Digital has grown in many ways since that first meeting around a picnic table full of beers, but our team is still determined to bring out interesting and unusual games, and to help the developers and our people. Devolver colleagues to make their dreams come true.

Today we have become a publicly traded company. At first glance, it can certainly look like a departure from a group of friends who are launching a boutique gaming label, but it’s really kind of a validation for our team and partners. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past decade, and we sincerely believe it will make us even better.

Devolver Digital employees are still the majority owners of the business – from those of us at that first meeting around the picnic table to those who have joined us this year, everyone at Devolver Digital owns a participation in the company, its future and the future of its future.

So what does this mean for your sixth favorite game publisher? This means that Devolver Digital will be able to continue to invest in all of the games we are currently working on, partner with new games that we haven’t been able to consider before, and add more talented people that we are working with. enjoy working as our cadre of accomplished video game professionals.

This last point is important – over the past year we have welcomed our longtime partners and friends Croteam (Serious Sam, The Talos Principle), Dodge Roll (Enter the Gungeon), Nerial (Reigns, Card Shark) and FireFly Studios (Stronghold series) in the strong but gentle arms of Devolver Digital. These developers and our team looked to the future and saw that we would work together forever, so we lovingly acquired them, mainly to spend more time with us. The games and experiences these four studios have planned are incredible and each retains the full creative autonomy that is afforded to them throughout our relationship. No specific plans for Enter the Gungeon 2, but rest assured we’ve asked them more than once.

More cash, more security, and always the same spirit. And in addition to other studios were welcomed into the band. That is the demand of the people ?

With a boost … Station

Rather than answer this question which is not a question, let us tackle another topic. That of the shareholders. There are indeed prestigious investors. Including a very important from a major player in the industry according to the law firm Fieldfisher. We know that Sony Interactive Entertainment has 5% of the capital of Devolver. The Chinese Netease, Tencent’s main competitor, owns 8%. The future is in the indie, take it for granted.
