Death Stranding: a live-action film announced, the first details

Hideo Kojima officially launches into the cinema with the adaptation of Death Stranding. A copy-paste of the first game or a complete replay? Will the creator be in the making?

A Death Stranding movie is in development

Hideo Kojima, whose “the body is made up of 70% films”, is teaming up with Hammerstone Studios to deliver a Death Stranding movie. A live-action feature film to be produced by Kojima-san himself. However, the identities of the director and screenwriters are still kept secret.

This will be Kojima Productions Los Angeles’ very first project. An antenna created with the aim of seizing all the opportunities related to cinema, series and music.

I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. It’s a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to working with them to bring Death Stranding to the big screen.

We are happy and honored to have the opportunity to partner with the brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima for his first film adaptation. Unlike other big-budget video game adaptations, this will be something much more intimate and grounded.

Alex Lebovici of Hammerstone Studios via Deadline

Hammerstone Studios is a company that finances, develops and produces independent films. A company that released Bill & Ted Face The Music, the Barbarian horror feature film and which will also adapt the Kung Fury short film.

The plot, also kept secret, will be somewhat different. It will introduce new characters and elements to the franchise universe. Will we see Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen or even Guillermo Del Toro in their roles?

This big announcement comes as Death Stranding 2 has been made official.
