While James Michael Tyler, unforgettable Gunther in the series “Friends”, passed away yesterday at the age of 59, the other actors in the series paid tribute to him.
Unforgettable interpreter of Gunther – manager of Central Perk who accompanied the Friends during the 10 seasons of the cult series – actor James Michael Tyler passed away yesterday at the age of 59. Suffering from prostate cancer since 2018, he had nevertheless participated remotely in the group’s reunion this year, by recording a video message for the occasion.
Since his disappearance, the other main actors of the series have paid him vibrant tributes on their social networks.
“Friends wouldn’t have been the same without you”, wrote Jennifer Aniston (Rachel) on Instagram. “Thank you for the laughs you brought to the show and to all of us in our lives. We will miss you so much.”
Matt Leblanc, interpreter of the facetious Joey in the series, meanwhile spoke of his bursts of laughter with the missing actor: “We had a great laugh together, mate. We will miss you. Rest in peace, my friend.”
“The extent of the gratitude you brought with you when you arrived on set every morning is comparable to the gratitude I feel for having known you. Rest in peace, James,” said Courteney Cox, aka Monica.
Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), for her part, summoned the famous lyrics from the credits of Friends to send a final message to the comedian: “James Michael Tyler, we will miss you. Thank you for being there for all of us.”
Present in 150 episodes of Friends (out of a total of 236), James michael tyler had been entrusted with the role of this sympathetic barista in love with Rachel thanks to a very specific aptitude. Indeed, initially supposed to do simple figuration in the series, he had inherited this character because he was the only one who knew how to operate the Central Perk coffee machine. An ease that he undoubtedly owed to his main job: waiter in a cafe in Los Angeles.
