The news of the death of Gaspard Ulliel, this January 19 at the age of 37 following a skiing accident, logically aroused strong emotions. Many testimonials are pouring in to salute the actor with two Césars (Best Hope and Best Actor), who notably played the great couturier Yves Saint Laurent on the big screen and played an important role in the upcoming Marvel series, Moon Knight.

The Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques logically split a tribute to the actor: “French cinema today loses a passionate, an immense actor. The Academy sends its warmest thoughts to those close to it”.

“Gaspard belonged to this new generation of actors who make the French cinema of tomorrow. He knew how to choose his roles and shaped his career which fulfilled all its promises”, said Thierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes Film Festival, in a press release sent to variety. “Every appearance on the red carpet, from La Princesse de Montpensier to Just the end of the world, illustrated his presence both discreet and full of benevolence. He was just as brilliant and talented. He gave a lot and we will always remember him. him” he added.

The Académie des Lumières, which rewarded the actor in 2015 for his composition in Saint Laurent, salutes “a personality that is both luminous and secret, combining gentleness and energy”.

Roselyne Bachelot, Minister of Culture, salutes the memory of “an exceptional actor”, strong of “his sensitivity and the intensity of his playing”:

Jean Dujardin posted his his Instagram account a photo of the actor, soberly accompanied by a black heart with his first name.

Same thing for Guillaume Canet on his Instagram account:

“Gaspard was benevolence and kindness. Beauty and talent” written for his part Pierre Niney, who had also played the couturier Yves Saint Laurent in the film released the same year as that of Gaspard Ulliel.

Xavier Dolan, director of Just the end of the world, posted a moving tribute on Instagram. “It’s unbelievable, insane, and so painful to even think of writing these words. Your quiet laughter, your watchful eye. Your scar. Your talent. Your listening. Your whispers, your kindness. from a sparkling sweetness. It is your whole being that has transformed my life, a being that I loved deeply, and that I will always love. I can not say anything else, I am emptied, stunned by your departure”.

Nathalie Baye, who shared the poster for Just the end of the world with him, reacted this Wednesday to the announcement of his death. “He was handsome, he was gifted, he was tender, elegant, benevolent, he was a father…. Gaspard will be sorely missed…”, she wrote in the caption of a photo from the film:

Nicolas Briançon, actor and theater director, who had given the reply to Gaspard Ulliel in Embrace who you want by Michel Blanc, in 2002, spoke on the set of BFM TV: “It’s a terrible shock. To die so young, in such… so stupid, so terrible conditions, it’s heartbreaking. It’s so many roles that he won’t play and that were waiting for him […] I’m not at all intimate with Gaspard, but I knew him when he was just starting out when we toured together. We had been seeing each other since and he was a marvelously handsome guy, but he was handsome inside, Gaspard. He was a straight guy, honest, enthusiastic, warm, smiling, good comrade […] We are devastated and sorry, and of course I am thinking of his family.”

Alex Lutz, who had directed him in the comedy La Vengeance au triple gallop released last October, evokes “his immense sorrow. We will not forget you. We will reach out to yours and think of them so much”.
