Jérôme Bonnell returns to the cinema with Dear Lea
Six years later Three we go, burlesque comedy about a love triangle, the screenwriter and director Jérôme Bonnell reunites with Anaïs Demoustier for his new film Dear Lea. Years have passed but – almost – nothing has changed, since, as the trailer seems to show (at the head of the article) the director remains in the romantic genre that he masters brilliantly and which makes the success of his films. What is new is the presence in the lead role of Grégory Montel, in love with his ex Léa (Anaïs Demoustier). He decides on a whim and after a drunken evening to visit him. Rejected, he takes refuge in the cafe below his apartment and starts writing a long letter …
In the heart of men?
On a playful version of Letter to Élise, we discover Jonas distraught but determined to rekindle the flame of the couple he formed with Léa. To achieve this, he sits down and writes down the words that come to him to signify his love to him. What will not leave indifferent the owner of the said coffee, interpreted by the always excellent Grégory Gadebois. The trailer images for Dear Lea thus show Jonas’ back and forth between the café and Léa’s building, a building that he closely monitors when he is not writing. Married, older than Léa, his approach surprises those who are interested in his case, which will cause meetings whose high content of humor and emotion.
Rather than looking at the relationship between Leah and Jonas, Dear Lea should explore this time of rupture where it is believed that anything is still possible. By leaving Léa essentially absent from the field, by placing her above all in a role of fantasy and inaccessible for Jonas, Dear Lea promises to be a study of the character of love in men. We also find in the cast Léa Drucker, Nadège Beausson-Diagne and Pablo Pauly.
Dear Lea arrives in theaters December 15, 2021.
