Broadcast this Monday evening on C8, Deadpool 2 will soon be entitled to a sequel. We take stock of this third adventure of Wade Wilson.
After the immense success of the first Deadpool, Fox, which then held the rights to the character, quickly started a sequel which also hit the box office.
Before Joker by Todd Philipps do not dethrone them in 2019, the two feature films were even the ones that had grossed the most money in history for R-rated films (that is, prohibited to those under the age of 17 unaccompanied by an adult in the United States. ). No wonder then that Fox wanted to order a third episode, but everything did not go as planned following the acquisition of the studio by Disney.
CHANGING STUDIO …
Indeed, when Mickey’s House bought 21st Century Fox, several projects were canceled, including a film that was to be dedicated to the X-Force team, and Marvel Studios has recovered the rights to the X-Men, the Fantastic 4 or even Deadpool. And if the first franchises will a priori be entitled to reboots, the Mercenary Disert will continue to be played by Ryan Reynolds, to the delight of fans.
Disney pundits have even repeatedly assured that the character would always be so irreverent and would continue to evolve into R rated films!
… AND SCREENWRITERS!
On the other hand, if the writers of the first two episodes, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, already imagined writing the third adventure by Wade Wilson, they are finally Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin who were recruited to write it, alongside Ryan Reynolds, very involved in the project.
A few weeks ago, during an interview with Collider, the actor also gave some news of the film:
It is moving forward on a daily basis. It takes time, going back and forth, and I work with the Molyneux sisters, it’s going very well. They have a lot of talent and are so brilliant. They are very much in tune with this universe and adapt, so it was a lot of fun.
The interpreter of the anti-hero further indicated that there is a 70% chance that Deadpool 3 will shoot next year!
More recently, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige assured ComicBook.com already know when the film was going to be released, without disclosing the information. In any case, it should not be before the end of 2023, or even 2024. We still do not know who will direct it either, the director of Deadpool 2, David Leitch, does not seem to be attached to the project.
WHAT ABOUT THE PLOT?
As for the history of this third opus, it is for the moment kept secret. Last January, Kevin Feige nevertheless reaffirmed to Collider that the feature would be rated R and, most importantly, that it would be part of the MCU. Enough to open up a large number of possibilities for connections with all the heroes already present in this universe.
Don’t expect to see Wolverine, as Hugh Jackman, interact with Deadpool though as the comedian recently confirmed to Jake Hamilton that he was done with the role, specifying: “Tell it to whoever you want. But please say it mostly to Ryan [Reynolds] because he doesn’t believe me, he thinks I’m joking.“Enough to put an end to the rumors that imagine him back for Deadpool 3.
Another character might not reappear in the film: Cable, played by Josh Brolin in Deadpool 2. In an interview posted on ACE Universe YouTube channel, the actor has indeed declared that he does not know about Marvel’s plans, which means that he has not yet been contacted to reprise his role …
