In the wake of the leadership change at Warner Bros. This year, word has already spread that the new boss, David Zaslav, also has big plans for DC’s comics division, which belongs to the studio, and above all wants to rely on well-known and successful brands. A new background article from Hollywood reporters now shows how gigantic these plans actually are.
In addition to “Man Of Steel 2” (including Henry Cavill’s comeback as Superman), “The Flash 2” and two potential new projects from “The Suicide Squad”- and “Guardians Of The Galaxy”-maker James Gunn, one also wants to strengthen the success of “The Batman“, which was able to flush an impressive 770 million dollars into the box office worldwide this year. “The Batman 2” has therefore been decided for a long time, as has an offshoot series about the penguin played by Colin Farrell. But apparently that’s not all…
The said Hollywood reporter-Article according to meets “The Batman”-Creator Matt Reeves is currently working with several writers and directors to develop a whole series of films around the Dark Knight’s extensive villain squad. The focus should not only be on those who are well known to the film audience, but also on some more obscure opponents.
Mentioned here, for example, is also from Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy known Scarecrowwho uses a special gas to make his enemies live through their worst fears, the monstrous shapeshifter Clayface and the crazy one Professor Pig. The latter in particular is one of the most wacky and brutal Batman adversaries, as the surgeon, who wears a pig mask, is notorious for kidnapping people in order to use chemicals and operations to turn them into mindless slaves or human-animal hybrids to transform.

DC
Might be getting their own movies soon: Scarecrow, Clayface and Professor Pyg (left to right)
A film about Pyg is likely to be all the more disturbing if the planned spin-offs are in a similarly dark notch as the crime thriller “The Batman” hit. What these newly revealed film plans mean for an also rumored series about the rogue prison Arkham Asylum is still unclear. This may now become obsolete, but maybe it could also act as a link between the villain offshoots.
However, it is not guaranteed whether all of the planned spin-offs will actually come about, as the projects are all still in a very early stage of development. In any case, the fact is that Warner and DC are actually working on a great new Batman universe with “The Batman’ as a starting point, with Matt Reeves as the leadwhich will be detached from the (in the meantime rather loosely held together) DCEU around the Justice League.
