Chance of the calendar? A few hours before Nintendo announced the arrival of the games from the Nintendo 64 game library via Nintendo Switch Online, the Perfect Dark license was again talking about it.
It’s almost a year since the return of the agile Joanna Dark was officially announced by the brand new studio The Initiative, and it’s an understatement to say that the information has since been relatively meager, the latter mainly revolving around the ex- Insomniac Drew Murray, who finally chose to leave the young adventure to return to his family.
Fluid dynamics
If we know that Microsoft has set up the studio The Initiative from scratch in order to strengthen its label of in-house exclusives, the new spearheads of Xbox Game Studios also benefit from a weight reinforcement to revive a heroine too quickly disappeared, more than fifteen years after the aptly named Perfect Dark Zero:
Update on Perfect Dark! We’re teaming up with Crystal Dynamics, the world-class team behind the high-personality games in the Tomb Raider series, to bring this first-person thriller to a new generation.
The teams couldn’t pass up this chance to work together. We’re still in the early stages of development, but we’re incredibly excited to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make our vision for Perfect Dark a reality.
Here is a partnership which should undoubtedly pique the curiosity of the players having appreciated the first two opus of the reboot of the adventures of Lara Croft, via a trilogy which had indeed made it possible to dig the personality of the heroine. Well, they’ve been working on Marvel’s Avengers in the meantime as well, but whatever. The mayonnaise should take fairly easily, since Darrell Gallagher, head of The Initiative, worked for a decade for Crystal Dynamics, which should ensure at least a cordial understanding between the two teams.
Unfortunately, we will have to be content with this hopeful announcement for the moment, since Perfect Dark is still “at the start of its development”, an assertion already heard when it was announced in 2020.
