Cruella’s origins were explained in the classic villainous movie “101 Dalmatians”, with Emma Stone bringing her to life. Despite an exit disrupted by the health crisis, success has been met and a sequel is looming on the horizon.
Cruella : at the origins of evil
In the continuation of the films Maleficent, Disney wanted to continue exploring the trajectory of another known villain: Cruella. Thus was born the eponymous film directed by Craig Gillespie with Emma Stone in the main role. The screenplay tries to explain how a young woman fan of fashion has turned into this completely disjointed antagonist of the bulb. We can therefore follow her slide towards madness, like the Joker (in addition to family obviously), until she completes her transformation.
In France, Cruella came out in theaters. But the health crisis has caused premium access on Disney + in certain countries. In this context, we can still speak of a successful career since the studio welcomed the first financial returns last June. At the global box office, we are talking about $ 221.9 million and then you have to take into account all the money raised with digital purchases.
Emma Stone backs up for a sequel
If you were wondering if this Cruella had a future on screens, the answer is yes! The Hollywood Reporter reveals thatEmma Stone has just signed a deal for a second film. That she is concerned makes sense since the project would no longer make sense if the lead actress was not back. But this information is also interesting since it intervenes after the Scarlett Johansson scandal. The latter sued Disney for having released Black widow simultaneously on Disney + although this was not provided for in the contract. In the process, the American press announced that Emma Stone was possibly tempted by such a step after Cruella was entitled to the same treatment.
This deal confirms that the two camps have come to an agreement, with probably an understanding that Cruella 2 will be reserved for cinemas. The details of the contract are unknown but we can imagine that a salary increase was also implemented and that the actress, also a producer, did not sign without several guarantees.
