Netflix has unveiled new footage from the live-action series “Cowboy Bebop” with John Cho, Daniella Pineda and Mustafa Shakir in the lead roles. The series will be available on the streaming platform on November 19.
Cowboy Bebop, the anime goes live
Cowboy Bebop is originally an animated series adapted from the eponymous manga. Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, the series became cult at the end of the 1990s thanks to its style and the variety of its themes. The story is set in 2071 and follows the crew of the Bebop spacecraft: named bounty hunters Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine and Jet Black.
Netflix decided to adapt the manga with a live series. In this version of Cowboy Bebop, the main characters are played by a John Cho, Daniella Pineda and Mustafa Shakir. On the side of the secondary roles, Alex Hassell is the interpreter of Vicious while Elena Satine is responsible for playing Julia.
A delirious teaser unveiled
After unveiling the credits of the series, Netflix has finally shown more elements with a promotional video (in one article). In style, this teaser pays homage to exploitation films of the 1970s – much like Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino did with Planet Terror and Death Boulevard. We find the mythical credits of the anime in the background, after which the three main characters start looking for a target. The video does not seek to tame us on the history of the series but rather to set an atmosphere. And the show having its origins in the manga Cowboy Bebop, the use of boxes like a comic book in which Spike, Faye and Jet Black roam is rather well seen. It also reminds the style of Edgar Wright with Scott pilgrim.
Note also the presence of Vicious, very important character in the history of Spike. We see him appear at 58 seconds armed with a saber. In the anime, a memorable fight between the two is remembered. To see if the live version will be as good, see you on Netflix on November 19th.
