In 2005, Keanu Reeves gave life to John Constantine in an adaptation of the famous comics “Hellblazer”. 17 years later, the actor will finally be able to resume this role! We weren’t expecting it anymore but Warner Bros has finally decided to launch this sequel project.
Constantine : Keanu Reeves as a demon hunter
with the trilogy MatrixKeanu Reeves experienced in the early 2000s a spike in popularity which he failed to take advantage of. The actor did not make paying choices and found himself shooting in forgotten or mocked films. Without his return to the fore with the saga John Wick, we might have thought he was lost. In 2005, still carried by the hype Matrix, he is hired to play Constantine in an eponymous film. The character from the DC universe is a demon hunter affected by cancer.
The film adaptation has succeeded rather well in transcribing the dark universe that we knew on paper. Although imperfect, the film had some great ideas to offer. Its success in theaters has been mixed. For a budget of around 100 million dollars, Constantine only grossed 230 million. Not enough to make Warner want Bros to rush to give birth to a sequel.

The sequel is finally here!
Two years ago, actor Peter Stormare (who played Satan in the first film) revealed that a sequel was in the works. Since ? Nothing, until today. The very serious American media Deadline explain that Constantine 2 is well in preparation. Warner Bros. had plenty of time to reflect on the subject and would have agreed to launch this sequel, 17 years after the release of the previous opus. Better late than never. Good news does not come alone, we also learn that Keanu Reeves will reprise his role for the occasion. The opposite would have been surprising and this sequel would have struggled to come together if it hadn’t been the case. The fact that the actor has been very popular with the public in recent years has necessarily weighed in the balance.
Director Francis Lawrence will also be back behind the camera and JJ Abrams, through his company Bad Robots, will produce. The latter was also to develop a Justice League Dark for the small screen. A new version of Constantine could have been introduced on this occasion but this global project seems to have stopped since the merger between Warner Bros and Discovery.
