The “Leprechaun” series with “Star Wars” actor Warwick Davis has long since become a cult thanks to numerous WTF moments. After several limited editions, there is finally a collection box for bargain hunters. It’s uncut, but something is still missing.
A nasty little goblin terrorizes Jennifer Aniston, Las Vegas tourists and astronauts. The result, while rarely spooky, is sometimes surprisingly brutal and often surprisingly amusing, thanks in large part to the mega-nasty cult oneliners the title character regularly uses to comment on the series’ kills. The “Leprechaun” film series, which started in 1993, has developed a sworn fan base – also because of its various WTF moments and its unpredictable dancing between voluntary and involuntary comedy.
After several limited “Leprechaun” collection sets have already appeared, which were correspondingly expensive and can now only be found second-hand, a regular new edition is finally following. The 6-disc set will be released on April 14, 2022 and is by no means as elaborate as previous collector’s editions, but it is also available at a bargain price:
Although some “Leprechaun” parts were initially only released in Germany in a censored form, they are now all available uncut. The collection set now includes the uncut versions of a total of six parts. Nevertheless, film fans with a desire for completion should be warned: Ironically, two of the most popular “Leprechaun” films are missing in this edition.
“Leprechaun”: An unusual horror cult
After the killer goblin, embodied by the “Star Wars” and “Harry Potter” supporting actor Warwick Davis, attacked average families, gambling addicts and astronauts with thieving joy, he was also drawn to the ghetto in the early 2000s: “Leprechaun 5 – In The Hood” and “Leprechaun 6 – Back 2 Tha Hood” in 2000 and 2003 combined an urban setting, numerous gags about hip-hop culture and weird horror fun.
This unusual combination inspired numerous fans of intended horror trash – and precisely these two parts are missing in the German “Leprechaun” collector’s editions. The reason for this is as follows: These two films were brought to the German home cinema market by Sony, but the label NSM Records currently holds the license for the remaining parts.
However, you can currently stream “Leprachaun 5” and “Leprachaun 6” as a VoD offer on Amazon Prime Video:
Reboot & Revival are included in the set!
But even without the two Hood horror films, the Leprechaun Collection still has hours of goblin scary fun to keep b-horror fans entertained. Included are the original, starring Jennifer Aniston in her first film role, Leprechaun 2, starring the eponymous monster looking for a bride, as well as the self-explanatory Leprechaun 3: Deadly Game in Vegas and Leprechaun 4: Space Platoon.
The set also includes the 2014 reboot and the 2018 TV revival, which is a direct sequel to the original. However, Warwick Davis does not return in his iconic killer role in either of these films.
