One month before the 2022 Oscars ceremony, the US remake of “The Aries Family”, “CODA”, distinguished itself at the 28th SAG Awards ceremony, which rewards the best interpretations in cinema and television in 2021.
SAG Awards, an indication for the Oscars
Taking place after the Golden Globes ceremony and before the Oscars, the Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony rewards exclusively the interpretations for cinema and television of the past year. A great evening for those who therefore make a profession of actresses and actors, and who logically give a strong trend for the Oscars ceremony that follows.

For example, in 2018, Gary Oldman won both awards for his role as Winston Churchill in The Dark Hours. The same thing for Frances McDormand hailed for Three Billboards: Revenge Billboards. In 2019, Rami Malek was awarded Best Actor for his performance in Bohemian Rhapsody and is also at the Oscars. In 2020, it is Joaquin Phoenix who is distinguished for his role in Joker, before he also won the Oscar for best actor. Renée Zellweger achieves the same double for Judy.
CODA stands out brilliantly
We do not sulk our little chauvinistic pleasure for this 2022 ceremony, since CODAthe American remake of The Aries Familyleft with two awards, that of the Best Cast for a Motion Picture and that of Best Supporting Actor, obtained by deaf actor and director Troy Kotsur. He is the first deaf actor to obtain this award, and above all the first actor to obtain two SAG Awards during the same edition.
Suffice to say that the actor, who plays in CODA the deaf and dumb father of the young high school student and singer played by Emilia Jones, is Oscar favorite for Best Supporting Actor. But even more, interestingly, it’s not uncommon for the SAG Award-winning film for Best Cast to subsequently receive Best Picture Oscar. This was the recent case, for example, for Parasiteor a few years ago for the spotlight. Can we thus imagine that CODA can fight its way to the ultimate reward?
It’s hard to say, and the competition is particularly tough, with films like Dunes, West Side Story, drive my car, or The Power of the Dog in contention. But in any case, the success is already dazzling for the Franco-American production CODA!
