For her first film role, the singer slips into Ella’s skin, a modern revisit of Perrault’s tale. Check out the first trailer for Cinderella, arriving September 3 on Prime Video.
We have seen a host of adaptations of Perrault’s tale. With Cinderella (Cinderella in VO), which Sony presents as a modern reinvention of history, the production has focused on the American singer of Cuban origin Camila Cabello. A choice that had then cringe some teeth, but the first trailer unveiled tonight will surely put everyone in the actor.
The young woman slips into the skin of Ella, a young provincial forced to live with a cantankerous stepmother and two unbearable sisters. Creative at heart, she can count on her godmother the fairy – who will be a non-binary character played by the brilliant Billy Porter (Pose) – to make her dreams come true.
As can be heard in the video, Camila Cabello will perform original songs, which she co-wrote mostly with Idina Menzel (Elsa from Frozen). We can also hear in the soundtrack of pop and r’n’b titles including Single Ladies by Beyoncé and Sweet Dreams of Eurythmics.
Who says princess, also says prince! Young Nicholas Galitzine (Free Dance) slips into Robert’s dressy costume. We also find in the cast Pierce Brosnan, James Corden (who had the idea of the film and who will lend his voice to one of the mice) or Missy Elliott.
Note that this Cinderella was originally to be released in the cinema. But after several postponements, Sony chose to resell the broadcasting rights, which were won by Amazon Prime Video. Subscribers will therefore be able to hear the pretty voice of Perrault’s heroine from September 3.
