Actress Christina Ricci, who played the role of Wednesday in the iconic 90s series “The Addams Family,” returns to the universe with a mysterious role on Netflix’s “Wednesday”. Jenna Ortega, star of “You” and “Jane the Virgin”, stars as Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s live-action series. It’s unclear which character Ricci will play this time around for the “Yellowjackets” star.
The eight-part series is described as a supernaturally conceived mystery story that depicts Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master his rising psychic ability, thwarting a terrifying killing spree that terrorized the local town, and solving the supernatural mystery that engulfed his parents 25 years ago, will live on in their new and very complex relationship in Nevermore.
Ortega is in the lead role, while other actors include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday’s mother, Morticia Addams, and Luis Guzmán as her father, Gomez Addams. Thora Birch is also on the show, however, she had to quit for personal reasons before wrapping up filming. Created by Al Gough and Miles Millar and directed by Burton, “Wednesday” will premiere on Netflix.
First created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938, the “Addams Family” has had numerous iterations on the screen. The most notable version came to cult status in the 1990s with the live-action films “The Addams Family” and “Addams Family Values” starring Ricci, Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, and Christopher Lloyd.
