Will Chris Hemsworth return as Thor after “Love and Thunder”? The future of the character remains unclear, but the actor gave his opinion on the matter, specifying that it would take a certain condition to convince him to carry a new adventure of the Marvel superhero.
The sequel to the MCU without Thor ?
Chris Hemsworth will long be associated with his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). A role he has held since 2011 with the first solo superhero adventure directed by Kenneth Branagh. Then, the character appeared alongside the Avengersand was entitled to three other feature films centered on him with The world of darkness (2013), Ragnarok (2017) and lately Love and Thunder (2022).
If at the end of Thor : Love and Thunder the hero is doing quite well and must now take care of LoveGorr’s daughter, the character’s future remains rather unclear. Indeed, for the moment nothing indicates a return of Thor in an upcoming MCU movie. If we look at the upcoming productions announced, Thor 5 is indeed absent. Remember that the Marvel calendar is already full until 2026 with phases V and VI.
Then, without having dates yet, films Shang Chi 2, Spider Man 4 or The Eternals 2 would be in preparation. If a new adventure of the Asgardian sees the light of day, it will therefore be necessary to wait several years.
Chris Hemsworth will return if…
The question was nevertheless put to the principal concerned, Chris Hemsworth, during the Josh Horowitz Podcast. The actor explained that nothing was certain for a return of the characterbut that if it were to be done, for him, it would need a film very different from the previous ones. Indeed, according to him, the first two Thor work similarly, as do the next two. We must therefore find a way to to reinvent oneself to convince him.
I’ve said this before, but when it gets too familiar, I think there’s a risk of getting a little lazy, because I already know what I’m doing. I don’t know if I’ll be called back, but if I am, I think it’s going to have to be a drastically different tone, at least for my own sanity (laughs).
Chris Hemsworth would therefore like to put aside the outrageous humor of Taika Waititi, which followed the dark atmosphere of the first two opuses. A way for him to stay invested without getting bored. We can therefore imagine that a return of Thor would still lead to a whole new version of the character. However, this possibility remains subject to another more important condition, actor’s health.
Recently, the actor revealed to have a high risk of developing Alzheimer’s syndrome. As a result, Chris Hemsworth would like to take a break from his career.
