“Star Wars” fans will have to wait a little longer to see Ewan McGregor back on stage as Obi-Wan Kenobi. In a video released Thursday, McGregor announced that he has postponed the premiere of his upcoming “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series from Wednesday, May 25, to Friday, May 27. However, the first two episodes of the miniseries will drop to Disney Plus that day.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” will now face off with season 4 of Netflix’s “Stranger Things”, which will air the first episode of its final season on May 27. Since Marvel Studios’ “Loki” series last year, Disney Plus has used Wednesdays to launch major TV series like Marvel’s “Hawkeye” and Star Wars’ “The Book of Boba Fett.” Previously, “The Mandalorian”, “WandaVision” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” aired in weekly episodes on Fridays.
McGregor’s announcement only includes the first two episodes of “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Therefore, the remaining four episodes may continue to air on Wednesdays. Set between the events of the prequel trilogy and the original “Star Wars” trilogy, McGregor returns as the famed Jedi master and former mentor to Anakin Skywalker’s young padawan before he was transformed into Darth Vader. Hayden Christensen is returning to the iconic Darth Vader role.
Ten years after the slaying of Order 66, Kenobi lives on Tatooine and follows the soon-to-be hero Luke Skywalker. Rupert Friend as the evil Chief Inquisitor, Joel Edgerton as Owen, Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Benny Safdie, and Maya Erskine is located.
