Champion : a first role for Kendji Girac
Singer Kendji Girac has come a long way since his victory at The Voice in 2014. Indeed, he chained concerts, albums and received numerous awards. From now on, the young man wishes thrive as an actor, without neglecting the music. For this, he challenged himself to play Zack, a young man who is a carpenter and illiterate in fiction Championdirected by Mona Achache, to whom we owe the films The Hedgehog in 2009 and The Gazelles in 2014.
At 24, Zack seems like a young man who feels good about himself. A talented carpenter, he built cabins perched in the trees with his father. Zack plans to move in with Marjorie when his father had a bad fall and fell into a coma. He must face, alone, the head of the small family business. The shortcomings he thought he had overcome resurface, and as a newcomer, Inès, enters his life, his secret risks being revealed at any moment: Zack is illiterate.

An unclear experience
The filming of Champion took place in the heart of the Marseille city. For this role, Kendji is fully invested and even transformed. Thus, the singer had to completely change his appearance, as he had entrusted to our colleagues from Parisian :
I changed my style of dress, I built up muscles and I grew my beard to the point of not recognizing myself.

The latter therefore took up boxing, thanks to intensive courses which started at 6 a.m. and ended at 9 p.m. By embarking on theacting actingKendji had to deal with some anxieties, as he had confided to Tele-Leisure :
Initially, I was impressed. I couldn’t even sleep at night. I was both impatient and stressed to start. I asked myself a thousand questions in my head. Am I going to insure? Am I going to pass the picture? It reminded me of my beginnings as a singer, before my first concert tour. I didn’t know where I was stepping. As soon as I started, I relaxed. The stress is gone.
For this first role on the small screen, Kendji therefore chose to highlight an important subject in his eyes, that of illiteracy. Having himself stopped school at 14, the young man may have encountered some difficulties. He therefore wants this fiction to break the codes so that it is no longer a taboo subject. Kendji will share the bill with Aurélie Pons known for her role as Salomé in Here it all startsbut also with Hanane El Yousfi (Red Wristbands) and Jean-Michel Tinivelli (Alice Nevers) among others.
The TV movie Champion will be broadcast on Monday September 5 on TF1. Platform subscribers somersault can already preview the fiction.
