At the box office, the dinosaurs once again proved their power: With worldwide grossing of more than $960 million, “Jurassic World: A New Age” was the second highest-grossing film of the year. only “Top Gun: Maverick’ was even more popular on the big screen. In the trade press, the final of the “Jurassic World” trilogy, however, is much weaker than Tom Cruise’s return to the Danger Zone – and even with satisfied dinosaur fans, the blockbuster left numerous question marks. Then the finished film was missing an exceptional number of scenes previously seen in the trailer.
In fact, there were so many that speculation quickly arose that director Colin Trevorrow severely shortened the dinosaur adventure for the cinema and that a longer version will probably be submitted later. Exactly these speculations have now proven to be correct: If “Jurassic World 3” comes to home cinemas on August 25, 2022, an extended cut of the blockbuster is also celebrating its premiere. This will be made available as VOD and will be included on the Blu-ray and 4K disc. Only the theatrical version will be released on DVD.

The Extended Cut can be found on the Blu-ray and the 4K Blu-ray as bonus material – so both media also contain the cut version of “Jurassic World 3”. Also in “Jurassic World” trilogy set* are both versions of the trilogy finale. In addition to the “Jurassic World 3” editions in standard packaging will also appear as steel books – one with two raptors as a motif, one with the iconic “Jurassic Park/World” logo in amber look.

Also the “Jurassic World Specially packaged 3-inch home theater releases include the film, starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and veteran dinosaurs Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum in the Theatrical Cut and Extended Cut.
The Home Theater Exclusive Extended Cut of “Jurassic World 3” is 14 minutes longer than the theatrical version, stretching the film from 146 minutes to an impressive 160 minutes. Thus, “Jurassic World 3” further extends its runtime distance to the rest of the “Jurassic” franchise – after all, it was already the longest part of the series in the theatrical version.
The Extended Cut begins with an alternate beginning, followed by several new sequences as the dino action progresses, which Universal Pictures says “even more dinosaurs, action, iconic moments” bring along. The short film “Kampf am Big Rock”, which was published online a few years ago, is not integrated into the film – but is on the discs as an extra. In contrast to the Extended Cut, the short film even makes it onto DVD!
+++ Opinion +++
Will the extended cut be worth it? In my opinion, this is the most exciting question of the remaining film summer, because to be honest I have no idea whether 14 additional minutes “Jurassic World 3” can still be saved, are just a drop in the ocean, or even make things worse. I myself had a lot of fun with “Jurassic World 3”, but could have lived with less idling. Will 14 more minutes of film change this impression? The additional action would have to have a lot of punch for that.
In addition, I have one of the milder reactions to “Jurassic World 3”. Even the 2-star DashFUN review, which states that the film is “a disappointing conclusion”, is one of the friendlier ones in an international comparison. Various total rip-offs proved that director/writer Trevorrow and his co-writer Emily Carmichael operated on a completely different wavelength than the majority of “Jurassic” fans, who wanted a completely different direction in terms of content. With 14 minutes of bonus spectacle, the brains behind “Jurassic World 3” is sure to have audiences thanking you for more thrills. However, you risk scaring off the fan base for good. Maybe my inner chaos theorist is speaking, but I’m really curious to see what happens!
