Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: a record that explodes everything, it's historic

In just a few days, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 sweeps away the underperformance of CoD Vanguard and achieves a record never reached by the franchise.

While the license was in decline after the failure of Vanguard, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 surprises everyone.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 challenges everyone

Released on October 28, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 exceeded $1 billion in revenue in ten days, including $800 million in just three days. This represents the biggest debut in the franchise’s history, any episode combined. The previous record holder was CoD Black Ops 2 in 2012, which was over a decade ago. Activision can therefore take out the cases of champagne, especially since it does not stop there.

In effect, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the most lucrative cultural product of 2022, ahead of all other games, films etc. To compare with a Hollywood juggernaut, Spider-Man No Way Home for example generated 600 million in three days.

A dazzling success commented by Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision:

Our developers, along with our entire Activision Blizzard team, are the backbone of our unwavering commitment to serving our hundreds of millions of players around the world. I am very proud of the extraordinary efforts our teams have made and the records they have achieved with Modern Warfare II. Connecting the world through joy, fun and the thrill of competition is key to our success. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has delivered this to millions of players faster and with greater satisfaction than ever before.

The future of the game is bright, finally once the toxics are renewed towards the exit.

An upcoming DLC?

What’s next? As early as next year, Sledgehammer (CoD Advanced Warfare) could launch an XXL DLC for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 to compensate for the absence of a new game in 2023. Activision has confirmed paid premium content and according to the very serious Jason Schreier, it concerns MWII.
