Comedian Keanu Reeves gives an update on his future comic book adaptations: BRZRKR. Indeed, the actor is preparing both a film in live version and an animated series adapted from the comics in his image.
What’s this BRZRKR ?
BRZRKR is a comic book series created in 2021 by Keanu Reeves and drawn by Ron Garney. The story centers on an immortal warrior known simply as B. Also called the Berzerker, he is the son of the God of War. B makes its way through the ages, leading it to modern times when it is used as a weapon by the government. At the same time, he seeks to learn more about his origins and how he can end his life. For the time being, the series includes 12 volumes, available from Boom!
With the help of Matt Kindt, Keanu Reeves decided to produce and star in a live-version adaptation of BRZRKR. The project is also accompanied by an animated series, which will also be carried by Keanu Reeves. BRZRKR is one of the best-selling comics of the last decade with more than 600,000 copies sold.
Keanu Reeves gives updates on adaptations
In a recent interview with Collider, Keanu Reeves gave some news about the progress of the projects BRZRKR. He thus again confirmed that the film in live version will be rated R. The actor clarified that the goal is not to make a simple adaptation of the comics, and not to offer a direct copy of the original format. Mattson Tomlin is currently working on the script for the animated series. Here is Keanu Reeves’ full comment:
My ambition or my hope is not to make a filmed version of the comic but that we can also take it elsewhere. I am in contact with a few different animation companies. And, again, for me, I hope to be inspired and influenced (…) We hired a screenwriter for the film, Mattson Tomlin. He’s been cool and is just starting to put things together.
BRZRKR is an ultra-violent comic book series that explores the depths of humanity. B, the hero of the story, wears the face of Keanu Reeves, and will therefore be available in different formats. BRZRKR does not yet have a release date, but will logically be produced by Netflix. In the meantime, Keanu Reeves has a lot to do since he will be featured in Matrix 4 next December 22 and John Wick Chapter 4 May 25, 2022.
