Despite their respective successes around the world, “Fast & Furious 9” and “Die Can Wait” are not the box office kings of the year. Nor “Black Widow”. Like last year, two Chinese films are leading the way.

If Hollywood regains some colors in this year 2021, its films have not yet become the kings of the world box office. Like last year, China dominates the debates and places two feature films at the top: the fantasy comedy Hi, Mom, in which a woman goes back in time to become friends with her mother; and the war film The Battle at Lake Changjin, co-directed by the legendary Tsui Hark (Once Upon a Time in China, Detective Dee).
Released on October 1 in China, the latter could even steal the number 1 spot at the world box office from its compatriot. Because it has already garnered $ 769 million in revenue in just under three weeks. And the figures are all the more dizzying as the two feature films have almost entirely directed them in their country of origin.
The fate of The Battle at Lake Changjin is also reminiscent of La Brigade des 800, another epic film centered on an episode of China’s war history, released directly on video in our theaters last April. , after being the 2020 box office champion.
And if another Chinese film (co-produced with the United States), Detective Chinatown 3, is in fourth position, most of the world Top 10 is trusted by Hollywood. And in particular Fast & Furious 9, which is on the podium with its $ 716.6 million. But how long will he stay there?
Because Dying Can Wait is already the sixth biggest worldwide success of the year. And if it will have overtaken its predecessor (Godzilla vs Kong) soon, the last James Bond worn by Daniel Craig should still gain a few places to, who knows, climb on the podium.
Note also that the identity of number 10 could also change in the coming days, because Venom 2, eleventh currently, is only a few million greenbacks from Sans un noise 2.
