Blade Runner: Ridley Scott announces live series

After the immense classic of 1982, and the sequel to Denis Villeneuve, the universe of “Blade Runner” will return to the screens for a third time, this time in the form of a live action series. It was Ridley Scott himself who broke the news.

Blade runner : one of the greatest sci-fi sagas of all time

In 1982, after The Duelists and Alien: the eighth passenger, Ridley Scott is directing his third feature film: Blade runner. Worn by Harrison Ford, the film, freely adapted from the novel by Philip K. Dick entitled Do androids dream of electric sheep, is a monument of science fiction. Set in a dystopian future, Blade runner depicts a society where replicants, extremely realistic androids, live among human beings. Rick Deckard is a police officer called Blade Runner who investigates crimes that involve replicants.

Twice Oscar nominee, Blade runner had reported more than $ 41 million in box office revenue. Over time, the feature film has become an absolute reference in the seventh art, and especially in modern science fiction. In 2017, Canadian director Denis Villeneuve directed a sequel titled Blade Runner 2049. The film worn by Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto and Ana de Armas among others, Also brought back Harrison Ford in his iconic role of Rick Deckard. Without surprise, Blade Runner 2049 wowed early fans was named to 5 Oscars. The film even walked away with the statuettes for Best Photography and Best Visual Effects. On the box office side, the work brought in more than $ 259 million in revenue for a budget of 150 million.

A live action series is in production

While it was believed that the universe of Blade runner was going to stay aside, Hollywood has struck again. The American world of cinema, always in search of reboots, remakes and sequels, has decided to offer a new work derived from the universe of Blade runner. In a recent interview with the BBC to promote his new film, House of Gucci, Ridley Scott reported on the series Alien, directed by Noah Hawley. He also took the opportunity to release a new size information: a series Blade runner en live action is currently in production:

We’ve already written the pilot and synopsis for Blade Runner. So we are already presenting Blade Runner as a 10 hour episode TV show.

Ridley Scott added that series Alien would come in the same format : a first season of 10 episodes lasting one hour each. Series Blade runner is therefore a whole new subject. We already know that Adult Swim is working on an animated series derived from the iconic film and titled Blade Runner: Black Lotus. But the two products do not seem to be related. At the moment nothing more is known about this series Blade runner. Ridley Scott has not revealed the cast of this work nor even the period in which it will take place. As for the potential return of Harrison Ford, it was not discussed. Series Alien as for it took a little advance and is expected in 2023 on Disney +.
