After avoiding a hundred blows on the set of “Blade Runner 2049”, Ryan Gosling ended up receiving a real one from Harrison Ford. A small accident fortunately without consequence.
blade runner 2049a monumental suite
Thirty-five years later blade runner by Ridley Scott, made in 1982 and inspired by the novel Do Androids Dream of electric sheep? by Philip K. Dick, was released in theaters blade runner 2049. This time directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film takes place thirty years after the events of the first film. Now, new replicants are tasked with hunting down the old models and putting them out of action. This is the case of K (Ryan Gosling)a new blade runner who will embark on an investigation leading him to Deckard (Harrison Ford). The latter, after tracking down a group of replicants in the first film, disappeared after running away with Rachel. Finally, note the presence in the casting of Ana de Armas in the very beautiful role of Joy, a holographic artificial intelligence who accompanies K.
blade runner 2049 is a grandiose film, visually impressive and carried by a scenario as fascinating as that of the first film. However, the success has not been at the level of expectations. With only 259 million dollars raised worldwide for a budget of $150 million, the film is considered a commercial failure. Faced with these figures, Warner preferred not to develop a sequel. At least for the moment.
A fight went wrong
One of the expectations around blade runner 2049 concerned the meeting between Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling. The first resumed his role while the second somehow took his place, becoming the new hero of Blade Runner. The meeting of their two characters, in an old Las Vegas casino that Deckard squats, is quite explosive. And even gives rise to a fight in a nightclub. Obviously, all of this is just cinema and we know that the actors did not really get carried away. Well almost…
Indeed, during the filming of this sequence, Harrison Ford really hit Ryan Gosling by accident. As he explained at the time to QG, Gosling had to stand in a specific spot to avoid getting really hit. Except that in the heat of the action the actor is badly placed and received the fist of his colleague in the face.
His job was to be out of range of the punch. My job was to make sure I got the punch. But we were moving, and the camera was moving, so I had to take into account the angle of the camera to make the punch believable. You know, I must have thrown a hundred punches on that shoot and I only hit him once!
A rather funny moment that could be immortalized by the camera that was turning. And who gave this picture below particularly funny with Ryan Gosling stunned and Harrison Ford presumably well annoyed.
Fortunately, this small accident was without consequence. Moreover, to be forgiven, Ford would have proposed to Gosling to share a bottle of scotch with him. And concerning this famous fight scene, know that it could very well have never been in the final assembly.
