Black Adam : the nemesis of Shazam
Created in 1945 by Otto Binder and CC Beck, Black Adam is thought to be the nemesis of Shazam, who still called himself Captain Marvel at the time. As his eternal enemy, Black Adam received the powers of six Egyptian gods: Shou, Heru, Amon, Zehuti, Aten and Mehen. To obtain these powers it is enough for him to pronounce the word SHAZAM.

At the movie theater, it is Dwayne Johnson who has just put on the costume of the character in Black Adam. This is the first adaptation of this ambiguous anti-hero, directed here by Jaume Collet-Serra. Logically, Black Adam should return in the future in the DC Extended Universe, since it will even to confront a certain Superman. Despite mostly negative reviews, Black Adam got off to a good start at the box office with already more than $209 million in revenue in less than a week of operation.
The Justice Society of America
Invented in 1940 by Sheldon Mayer and Gardner Fox, the Justice Society of America (JSA) is the first superhero group created in the pages of All Star Comicsand stands as the ancestor of the Justice League. Until 1951, the JSA was a hit in DC comics. But, with the loss of interest of readers for the universe of superheroes, the JSA gradually disappears. It was not until the 1960s that this team returned to center stage. Screenwriter Gardner Fox then imagines a new origin for this team, which now evolves on Earth-2while the Justice League dominates Earth-1.

Originally, the Justice Society consisted ofAquamanBatman, Flash, Green LanternMartian Manhunter, Superman and Wonder Woman. Over time, the previously mentioned characters became members of the Justice League, while the Justice Society introduced new characters. Heroes like Atom, Batgirl, Black Lightning, Blue Beetle, Catwoman, Dr Fate, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Plastic Man, John Constantine, ShazamSupergirl or even Lex Luthor have all been part of the Justice Society.
Doctor Fate
Black Adam does not simply introduce Teth-Adam into the DCEU. Indeed, Jaume Collet-Serra’s film also presents other iconic DC comics characters. The most anticipated was certainly Doctor Fate. Portrayed by Pierce Brosnan in the feature film, the character of Doctor Fate made his very first appearance in 1940, during the golden age of comics. Created by Gardner Fox and Howard ShermanDr. Fate is arguably the most powerful magician in the entire DC Universe.

Initially, Kent Nelson is the son of Sven Nelson, an archaeologist who discovers the tomb of Nabu, an Egyptian wizard. Nabu’s Helmet has powerful and dangerous magical properties. If the helmet gives its holder immeasurable powers, he also tends to corrupt his soul as well. Later, when his father dies, Kent inherits Nabu’s helmet and decides to become Dr Fate.
Thanks to this helmet, Kent can see the future of everyone he meets, without knowing his own. When Kent wears his helmet, he is immortal, knows absolutely everything about the multiverse, can turn his enemies’ magic against them, and has a huge library of spells of all kinds. He can notably multiply, take on the appearance of someone else, manipulate his size and that of others, emit bursts of destructive energies, or even travel through time and dimensions. He is unquestionably the most powerful character in the Justice Society.
Hawkman, Atom and Cyclone
Created in 1940 by Gardner Fox and Dennis Nevillearchaeologist Carter Hall discovers that he is a reincarnation of the ancient prince of Egypt Khufu Kha-Tarr. In possession of the “nth” metal that defies the laws of nature, Carter becomes Hawkman, a mighty winged warrior. Initially, he searches for his past love, Hawkgirlwho was also reincarnated in the body of a young woman named Shiera Sanders. The two heroes, inseparable, then spent their time doing good, whether with the Justice Society or the Justice League. The generation of millennials has been familiarized with these two characters by the excellent animated series The Justice Leaguecreated in 2001. Yet, despite the bond that unites the two winged warriors, Black Adam skipped Hawkgirl…
