He is one of the greatest actors of his generation, and delivers a moving performance in “De son vivant” by Emmanuelle Bercot. We had the privilege of meeting Benoît Magimel, for an interview where he talks about his role, his relationship with the subject of the film and the acceptance of his fate.
Benoît Magimel back in a very big role
Featured at In his lifetime, which he shares with the formidable Catherine Deneuve, Benoît Magimel delivers a remarkable performance in the role of Benjamin, 39-year-old man convicted of terminal pancreatic cancer. This melodrama by director Emmanuelle Bercot, their third collaboration together, touches the heart and does not play the card of suspense. This cancer, the most deadly, leaves no hope. Thus, we follow the last year of Benjamin’s life, and as recommended by Dr. Eddé (Gabriel Sara, real oncologist in his own role), we must “put order in the office of his life”.
Tell your loved ones that we love them, that we forgive them, that we thank them and that we also apologize to them, finally try to live their last moments intensely. So, with his mother Crystal, with his students to whom he teaches theater, with perhaps his son whom he has never known, Benjamin will try to find meaning in his life.
“I totally refused that we could die like this”
Benoît Magimel opens up in this interview, and tells how difficult it was at first to grasp the subject, and thus the first part of the shooting was not the most pleasant. But like his character, he accepted his fate, including the approach of Doctor Gabriel Sara, to finally embrace his destiny. A role that resonates strongly with the actor’s career, which the vagaries of life have not spared in recent years
Accompanied in particular by Catherine Deneuve Cécile de France, Gabriel Sara and Oscar Morgan, Benoît Magimel delivers a major new performance in his already rich filmography.
In his lifetime is currently in theaters.
