Benjamin Voisin and Marina Foïs discover each other and hit the road in “En roue libre”, a surprising road movie and first feature film by Didier Barcelo. We caught up with them to go into the details of this refreshing comedy.
Freewheelingan ideal Benjamin Voisin – Marina Foïs duo
On the one hand, a great actress and figure of French cinema as comfortable in comedy as in drama. On the other, a brilliant young actor recently Caesarised for his performance in lost illusions. For the first time, Marina Foïs and Benjamin Voisin play opposite each other in Didier Barcelo’s first feature film, Freewheeling.
A road movie light and optimistic
In this film, she is Louise, a woman on the verge of exhaustion who is victim of an anxiety attack which prevents him from getting out of his car. Unable to leave her yellow Volvo station wagon, she will then have to deal with Paul, a confused and apparently violent young man who steals her car to go to Cap Ferret. Start then a road movie amazing where these two unmarked individuals will discover each other, tame each other and together heal each other.
The deviceFreewheeling is unique and attractive, with a main character glued to his seat and another who acts like a beast in a cage. Often funny, sometimes touching, there is an irresistible freshness in this dramatic comedy. A story of two beings each marked by their loneliness, loneliness that together they will soften. On their eventful journey, they will meet other characters who will each bring them something. Special mention to Jean-Charles Clichet, in the role of a singular “psy”.
We met the two actors, who spoke to us with enthusiasm and humor about this singular film (video at the top of the article), in cinemas from June 29, 2022.
