Benedict Cumberbatch is about to return to television. He will play Alexander Litvinenko, the poisoned KGB agent in a miniseries for HBO.
Benedict Cumberbatch set to star in miniseries Londongrad currently in development at HBO, says Variety. Based on the book “The Terminal Spy” by Alan Cowell, the series tells the true story of Alexander Litvinenko, the KGB agent turned defector later.
He was killed by poisoning with the radioactive isotope polonium-210 in 2006 in England. Benedict Cumberbatch will play the role of Litvinenko and will also be executive producer on the project through his production company Sunnymarch.



David Scarpa – screenwriter of The Last Castle and All the Money in the World – will write Londongrad and will also be executive producer. As for the realization, it will be entrusted to Bryan Fogel who directed the excellent documentary The Dissident on the assassination of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Since the end of Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch has starred in the Patrick Melrose miniseries and lent his voice to Satan in the Good Omens series. We will see him from December 1 in The Power of the Dog by Jane Campion on Netflix before finding him in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in May 2022.
