While a series on Gordon’s Commissioner is also in the works, another character from Matt Reeves’ new film “The Batman” is about to emerge. A name is already confirmed: Colin Farrell.
Matt Reeves is set to reinvent Gotham’s hero with an all-new movie, The Batman. One of the most anticipated projects of 2022, scheduled for March 2. The blockbuster has not yet been released as several side projects are already blooming on the side of Warner. The latest? A spin-off series about one of Batman’s archenemies, the Penguin, featured in the upcoming adaptation.
Colin Farrell, who lends his features to the antagonist for the version of Matt Reeves, will find his character and officiate as executive producer. The fiction will follow the rise of the criminal in the underworld of Gotham City. Lauren LeFranc, screenwriter for the series Chuck, Impulse or Marvel: Agents of SHIELD, will sign the script.
The images of Colin Farrell in the first two trailers unveiled are already talking. The Irish actor appears unrecognizable there, transformed thanks to prostheses. Invited in the podcast Happy Sad Confused, he declared however that his role was minor, with only “five or six scenes”. This derivative series would therefore be an opportunity to extend its story beyond Matt Reeves’ film.
The spin-off is the third side project on Batman launched by HBO Max. The platform will offer a series centered on another iconic comic book character, Commissioner Gordon. No information specifies, for the moment, if Jeffrey Wright will take care of bringing it back to life in this format. The third project is lively. Entitled Batman: Caped Crusader, the fiction is carried by Matt Reeves, Bruce Timm and JJ Abrams and promises to return to the neo-noir roots of the jusitcier. A first visual was unveiled in May 2021:
