“Bambi” is undoubtedly the Disney studios film that traumatized a generation. But can you imagine that the feature film should have been much sadder than you expected? The proof below!
Bambi : a heartbreaking story
When the movie starts the whole forest is in turmoil around the birth of a young fawn baptized Bambi. But things don’t take long to take a most dramatic turn when a hunter kills the latter’s mother during a particularly traumatic sequence. Wounded, his son nevertheless manages to escape. The plot of Bambi, cult animated film from Disney studios, revolves therefore around the existence of the latter, marked by great happiness – we think in particular of Féline, the young doe with whom he falls in love. But unfortunately, danger still lurks in the forest…
The Disney studios released the work which would become one of their flagship feature films in 1942. For the anecdote, the phrase “Man is in the forest”, synonymous with future trouble for the animals of the forest, had a another rather funny utility. Indeed, the employees of the studios used it when Walt Disney was around ! In terms of its design, Bambi marks a turning point in more than one respect. If at the time the dubbing was done almost exclusively by adults, it is indeed children who have been chosen to interpret the voices of animals from their childhood. More so, the animated film is one of the few that does not see its songs performed by its main characters! All the songs that can be heard in Bambi are therefore recorded independently by soloists or choirs.
Worse and worse
It goes without saying that Bambi is often named as one of the saddest movies famous studios. But did you know that your tear capacities could have been put to the test even more severely? Basically, Bambi is an Austrian children’s novel by Felix Salten. During the latter, we meet the character of Gobo, twin brother of Féline, who happens to be an important secondary character in the work. Unfortunately, his story is particularly cruel and unfair …
So one day a man finds Gobo injured and decides to take him home. There, he takes care of the little animal while it regains its strength. Once the fawn is back on its feet, his benefactor releases him into nature, where he reunites with his sister, Bambi and his own mother. Following his adventure, Gobo remembers that, despite appearances, human beings are trustworthy. That is why, years later, he fearlessly approaches a hunter.
Unfortunately, kindness is a matter of perception and the stranger shoots him down without any emotion. In spite of all this sordid story, we retain the interest of the character as well as his optimistic philosophy of the human species, which sadly brought him to ruin. A very cruel subplot that might have been too much in the feature film Bambi, a work already loaded with drama!
Since he does not appear in the film at all Bambi, very few representations of Gobo exist. The most curious will nevertheless be able to discover it. in some illustrated versions of the work of Felix Salten!
