After “Dying Can Wait”, Ana de Armas could quickly return to action, with negotiations underway to play the lead role of “Ballerina”. An attractive prospect for an actress on the rise.
Ana de Armas: a revelation from Cuba
Born into a modest family in the Cuban city of Santa Cruz del Norte, Ana de Armas wanted to be an actress since she was 12 years old. She knew her first big opportunity when she moved to Madrid in the mid-2000s. After revealing herself in the Spanish teen series El Internado (between 2007 and 2010), she began her American dream by pursuing her career in Los Angeles. It was in Hollywood that she began to break through by multiplying the appearances noticed in Knock Knock, Suspicions, War Dogs or even Hands of stone.
From 2017, her career goes up a notch since she is part of the cast of Blade Runner 2049. However, it is in the crime thriller At loggerheads that the Cuban actress is definitely causing a sensation by brilliantly interpreting Marta Cabrera, an immigrant nurse. A role for which she also received a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a musical film or a comedy. A great reward for a film which nevertheless has much more upscale names (Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Chris Evans, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon…).
More and more in demand, the actress has thus multiplied the shootings between 2020 and 2021. We will especially remember her role in To die can wait, in which she reunites with Daniel Craig. As Paloma, the 33-year-old makes a notable appearance, in a slit evening dress and armed with a machine gun. A performance that gave ideas on the side of the John Wick saga since, as revealed Deadline, Ana de Armas is in negotiations to play the first role of the film spin-off of the saga.
A heroine ready for revenge
In John Wick: Parabellum, a young ballerina (played by Unity Phelan) appeared fleetingly. The franchise will therefore develop this character more in depth in a solo film dedicated to him.
The feature film titled Ballerina A young woman will follow who wishes to take revenge on those who massacred her family. Initially, it was Chloe Grace Moretz who was brought up to play the character. A role that she would undoubtedly have carried with effectiveness when one remembers her performances in Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2.
Ballerina will be directed by Len Wiseman, who is responsible for the first two films Underworld, as well as Die Hard 4 and the remake of Total Recall. Shay Hatten, already present on John Wick: Parabellum, will be back to writing. If for the moment nothing is confirmed, we hope that Keanu Reeves, producer of this spin-off, will also make a small appearance in the film. It would also be a great reunion with Ana de Armas, who had collaborated with him on Knock Knock and Suspicions.
Remember thata television spin-off of the franchise will air soon on Starz. Title The Continental, the series counts in particular with the cast Mel Gibson.
In addition, Ana de Armas has the honor and the charge of playing the legendary Marilyn Monroe in the biopic Blonde hair planned on Netflix. She is also showing in two films scheduled for 2022: Troubled waters and The gray man.
