The 8th Balkan Panorama Film Festival will be held between 21 – 27 May 2022.
The 8th Balkan Panorama Film Festival, hosted by the Municipality of Buca and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, will be held between May 21 and 27 this year. The Advisory Board of the festival includes Istvan Szabo, Rade Šerbedžija, Milcho Manchevski, Ediz Hun, Lazar Ristovski, and Igor Galo. The Organizing Committee of the Balkan Panorama Film Festival (BPFF) has decided to give another important and meaningful award to the festival to be held this year.
Murat Tufan, the Executive Director of the Festival and the President of the Rumelian Culture, Art and Education Association, said, “I can say that we have gained momentum and attracted great attention both in Turkey and in the Balkans. The application dates, which we announced only through the official website of our festival, are almost on the same day as the cinema general directorates of 10 Balkan countries. It is reported as news and announced on their website by İzmir. Therefore, İzmir has a real international feature film festival for the first time in 10 years and has the opportunity to make its name known in the cinema community. Guests who come to İzmir fall in love with this city and return to their own countries and spend a long time “They’ve been doing some kind of advertising for years. In our experience, this is the most important and most impressive type of advertising,” he said.
YELLOW UMBRELLA DARIO MORENO AWARD
Founder and Director of the Festival, Assoc. Dr. Sali Saliji talked about an important and meaningful decision that came out of the Organizing Committee meeting: “So far, we have given the Yellow Umbrella award, the symbol of our festival, in 10 branches, national and international. We aim to increase the number of awards to 14 in a short time. However, in the last two years. Demands began to come from both Turkey and the Balkan countries for the creation of a branch in which both national and international feature films can compete together. We evaluated these demands. We conveyed this matter to our Advisory Board and they gave us some suggestions because they were warm to this issue. In this direction, we held a meeting at the BPFF Organizing Committee and decided to organize a competition where national and international feature films will compete together and will be evaluated by a separate international jury, starting from this year’s festival. Yellow Umbrella Dario Moreno Award will bear the name. Dario Moreno has been the gateway of both Izmir and Turkey to the world when it comes to music and cinema art. Unfortunately, Dario Moreno, who we know more as a singer in our country, has played important roles in films that have made the history of cinema and managed to fit about 40 feature films in his 47-year life. We are honored to keep the name of Dario Moreno, a lover of Izmir and Turkey, alive through our festival.”
