After Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, it caused a stir and allegedly caused almost all of his projects to be put on hold. There is now a denial on “Bad Boys 4”.

The usually well-informed industry magazine Hollywood reporters reported shortly after Will Smith’s now famous Oscar slap in the face that Sony had put “Bad Boys 4” on hold for the time being. It seemed like the logical next step: the studio wants to wait and see how things grow before tackling another Smith-led film. But according to Sony studio boss Tom Rothman, it wasn’t like that at all.
In an interview with deadline Rothman called the report “inaccurate”. The slap in the face did not change the status of “Bad Boys 4”: “This film was in development and continues to be.” Then why is there no progress? Because “Bad Boys 4” is probably still in such an early stage of development that there hasn’t been much progress yet.

Rothman explained so to opposite deadlineon why reports are wrong that Sony has hit the brakes on the project: “There were no brakes to step on because the car wasn’t even moving.” Ergo: It is not yet foreseeable when “Bad Boys 4” will go into production, so that one cannot think about how Will Smith’s public image will be then.
