No theatrical release for “Aya and the Witch”: the new production Ghibli directed by Gorō Miyazaki, will be available on Netflix from November 18th.
Pushed back several times due to the Covid, Aya and the Witch will ultimately not be released in theaters. Gorō Miyazaki’s new film, produced by the famous Ghibli studios (co-founded by his illustrious father, Hayao Miyazaki), will indeed be released exclusively on Netflix on November 18.
Adapted from a short story by novelist Diana Wynne Jones (whose novel The Castle of Hurle had already inspired Howl’s Moving Castle from Miyazaki father), Aya and the witch follows the adventures of an orphan and mischievous girl, adopted by a couple who seem to hide many secrets …
Presented in preview at the Lumière 2020 Festival (the film also benefited from the Cannes 2020 label), Gorō Miyazaki’s third feature film was released in Japanese theaters on December 30. let’s remember that Aya and the witch is the very first Ghibli production fully animated in CGI.
