Major MCU Event,”Avengers : Endgame” staged the death of Iron Man, unforgettable for fans of the hero. Three years after the release of the film, its directors returned to this moment. And they delivered an anecdote on the reaction of John Favreau when he read the script for the feature film.
A memorable death for Iron Man in Endgame
In 2019, Marvel is releasing the highly anticipated Avengers :Endgamea year after the huge cliffhanger at the end ofInfinity War. The film features the final showdown between the heroes introduced in the first 22 films of the Marvel Universe and the dreaded Thanos. Upon its release, the feature film panicked the box office. In a few days, it exceeded one billion dollars in revenue, before doubling this figure and becoming the biggest success of all time (later picked up by Avatar on the occasion of a release).

the film manages to conclude the narrative arc of major characters of the MCU. At the end ofEndgame, Captain America returns to the past to live with his great love, Peggy Carter. On the other hand, Iron Man has a very different ending. The hero played by Robert Downey Jr sacrifices himself to kill Thanos and prevent him from killing half of the living things in the universe again. The death scene of the man who really launched the MCU caused a lot of talk at the time of the release ofEndgame. And, three years later, the directors of the feature film made a revelation about this moment.
When Jon Favreau tried to dissuade the Russos
Invited by Vanity Fair, Anthony and Joe Russo recently returned to some major scenes from their films and series. Unsurprisingly, they were asked about Iron Man’s death. And they taught us that Jon Favreau had tried to make them change their minds. The director of the first two films about the hero and interpreter of Happy in the MCU thus telephoned the brothers after having read the scenario ofEndgame. According to Joe Russohe tried to convince the filmmakers to spare the character :
You can’t kill him! People are going to be devastated, and you can’t let them drive out of the cinema after seeing this!
Favreau therefore added pressure to the Russo brothers, who were already anxious about the public’s reaction to Iron Man’s death. But the latter were at the end of their ideas with the hero. As Joe explains in the same video, he and his brother, as well as the writers ofEndgameestimated have “deserved” to wrap up Tony Stark’s story arc this way, after how the character had been developed in previous MCU films. And many fans agreed with them. If many of them expressed their sadness after seeing this scene when the film was released, many thought Iron Man’s ending was well-chosen.
