A few days before the release of the highly anticipated “Avatar 2: The Way of the Water”, director James Cameron confided that one of the sequels would take place partly on Earth. And he explained why.
Avatar 2 finally hits theaters!
In this month of December 2022, fans ofAvatar are thrilled. Indeed, after thirteen years of waiting and several postponements, the sequel called The Way of the Water finally hits theaters on the 14th.
The plot takes place about ten years after the events of the first film. Jake and Neytiri are now at the head of a family (with their biological and adopted children). After a decade spent living in harmony in the heart of nature, they are forced to leave their paradise. after the GDR returned to Pandora. They then find refuge on the reefs, where they discover a new paradise populated by majestic creatures. They also meet the Metkayina clan, whose customs are very different from theirs.



At least three sequels expected
If it took more than a decade for James Cameron to launch the sequel to the adventures of Jake and Neytiri (still played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña), it’s because he wanted finish writing all the sequels he had in mind before starting production. Indeed, in addition toAvatar 2, at least three more sequels are planned. The latest is due out in December 2028.
However, if The Way of the Water did not work sufficiently at the box office, the director has already declared that the third film could act as an end to the saga. But in his plans, this is only the beginning for the Na’vi.
Avatar 5 would take place partly on Earth
The Canadian director is currently promoting The Way of the Water. The opportunity for him to unveil the contours of the future of his saga, and in particular the sets that will host the suites. And to everyone’s surprise, he revealed that part ofAvatar 5 would take place… on Earth:
It indicates that part of the plot will take place on Earth, approximately 200 years after our era. Very invested ecologically, he confides that it will be a question of compare points of view between the earthly paradise of Pandora, and the Earth that has been abused by humans.
James Cameron’s producer and collaborator Jon Landau also told io9 that it would concern Neytiri:
In the fifth film, a section of the story will send us to Earth. It’s a way to open your eyes, to open Neytiri’s eyes, to what exists on Earth.
He then explained that the reason for going to Earth was to explain to Neytiri that not all humans were evil like the GDR.
