Avatar 2: The Way of Water adds to its cast Stephen Lang who reveals himself with a first official image of the film. An appearance that was explained by director James Cameron.
Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington aren’t the only returning actors in Avatar 2: The Way of Water. As before, if you haven’t seen the first movie, it’s not worth reading any further. Incoming spoiler!
One of the villainsAvatar 2 revealed in picture
After reviving Doctor Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), director James Cameron invented a way to resurrect Commander Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), the big bad from the first feature film. A soldier sent to colonize Pandora and who will be driven by a strong thirst for revenge. His character was indeed killed during the final fight after receiving well-felt arrows from Neytiri, the wife of his enemy Jake Sully.
In Avatar 2: The Waterway, Quaritch will be “is bigger, bluer and is edgy” we learn from the mouth of the actor during an interview with Empire. “But he will show more humility. When you take two Na’Vi arrows in the chest, you remember it” he specifies. Miles Quaritch will not return in his human form but in a new body, the one allowed by the program Avatar. Thanks to this, it will be “as nimble as any Na’Vi” in his travels.
The explanation for this return
Stephen Lang can resume his role as Commander Miles Quaritch thanks to the Recoms or Recombinants, devices of the RDA – the organization for which he works -, which transpose the memory of soldiers into all-blue avatars. Quaritch and his army are on their toes and intend to gain the upper hand, or at least try.
“ RDA members return with an armada to retake the property prevIthem whom they previously lost” says Jon Landau, producer of the franchise. They will exploit again and again the land of Pandora, but also the oceans. For this they have a new basis “Bridgehead”.
Avatar 2: The Way of the Water will be in theaters on December 14th.
