Sigourney Weaver returns in “Avatar : La Voie de l’eau” but this time she will play a character very different from her. Indeed, the actress will play a Na’vi teenager.
Avatar 2 : a long-awaited sequel
Thirteen years after the release ofAvatar (2009), James Cameron will finally deliver the sequel with Avatar : The Way of the Water. The director had, with the first film, offered a technical revolution with the use of 3D. On the story side, we discovered the fabulous world of Pandora, uninhabitable for humans. In order to be able to survive the particular atmosphere of this Earth, the program Avatar is put in place. It allows humans to link their spirit to a hybrid body – between human and Na’vi (the inhabitants of Pandora).

Among the protagonists, we follow Jake, a former marine to whom we entrust the mission to infiltrate the Na’vi with his avatar. He will thus get to know these people, including Princess Neytiri. If this duet is interpreted by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver embodies Dr. Grace Augustine, head of the program Avatar. Although her fate is tragic at the end of the first film, the actress will be well back for Avatar 2. However, his character will be quite different.
Sigourney Weaver as a Na’vi teenager
The magazine Empire recently devoted one of its issues to Avatar 2. The opportunity to discover new images and learn more about the new character of Kate Winslet. Sigourney Weaver is also concerned since the magazine reveals important elements about her role. We thus learn that she will play a Na’vi named Kiri. And, surprisingly enough, it will be of a teenager and the adopted daughter of Jake and Neytiri.
Currently 72 years old, the actress therefore had to think back to her young years to compose this new role. In the case of Kiri, Sigourney Weaver explains that, according to her, the young girl would feel uncomfortable most of the time, because she seeks to build herself and know who she is. This choice of character for the actress is in any case surprising, and a real challenge according to James Cameron.
In terms of acting, it’s a big challenge. |…]Sigourney has rejuvenated. She looks younger, she has more energy and she never left her role while we were doing the whole performance capture. She was beaming and had a light walk and a fun spirit.
In addition to having to play a character younger than sixty years, Sigourney Weaver did not skimp physically. We learned two years ago that she had given of herself by training to dive into the sea and hold her breath for several minutes. The result will be to be discovered on December 14, 2022 in theaters.
