Months pass and the hype continues to mount about “Avatar : the way of the water”. Expected for December, the film directed by James Cameron continues its enticing promotion. And a key character from the first opus will make a surprising return… in an equally surprising form.
Avatar 2 : ready to put the cover back
The wait was very long! Indeed, it has been 13 years since the sequel toAvatar is long overdue. The highest-grossing film in cinema history should however be entitled to several sequels, as Fox had officially announced. They were to see the light of day from 2016. However, many delays in production occurred in the following years. Not to mention that in the meantime, Fox has been acquired by Disney and the Covid-19 pandemic has plunged the film industry into one of its biggest crises.
As of July 2020, Disney is categorical and definitive: AvatarThe Way of the Water will be released on our screens at the end of 2022. So it’s the end of a long production series… which announces the beginning of several sequels which should make our mouths water over the next few years.
For this second opus, new actors will appear such as Cliff Curtis, Kate Winslet or even Michelle Yeoh. These will be accompanied by actors already present in the previous part : Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Giovanni Ribisi or even Joel Moore. However, two surprising names were added to the cast as the fates of their respective characters were sealed in Avatar : Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.
Stephen Lang as what his character hates the most
In the 2009 film, Stephen Lang played the main antagonist of this adventure : Col. Miles Quaritch. This soldier was ready to do anything to chase the Na’vi Omaticaya clan out of the forest, on behalf of the RDA company which wanted to exploit the minerals in this area. While he had been killed by Neytiri at the end of the first opus, James Cameron had however warned that his character would be back in the sequel… without really explaining how.
From now on, we know it thanks to the magazine Empire who devoted an exclusive file to Avatar : The Way of the Water, complete with interviews and photos from the feature film. Thus, the character will return as a Na’vi avatar ! We can thus see him in a snapshot where he is present in a research center, surrounded by humans.
How is it possible ? We know that in this second episode, the RDA will make its big comeback on Pandora, forcing Jake and the rest of his clan to go into exile on the reefs. Quaritch will be resurrected for the occasion using new company devices, allowing the memory of certain soldiers to be transferred into avatars. The character, who was already very dangerous in the previous film, will be even more so in this sequel. since he will be as strong, as powerful and as agile as a Na’vi. It promises !
We recall that Sigourney Weaver, also back in this sequel, will also have a very surprising role. Indeed, the 72-year-old actress will no longer play the role of Dr. Grace Augustine (killed by Quaritch in Avatar) but that of Kiri, the adopted daughter of Jake and Neytiri.
We will still have to arm ourselves with a little patience to discover this on the big screen: Avatar : The Way of the Water will be released in theaters on December 14, 2022.
