James Cameron has two passions in his life: making films and exploring the ocean floors. This is why “Avatar 2”, the long-awaited second part of its monumental saga, inaugurated in 2009, and which will take place largely underwater, should offer a spectacle that is both unique and stunning. We discover a little more with a new image unveiled.
Avatar 2 : towards the seabed
Ready to dive into the oceans of Pandora? After the Na’vi in Avatar, people of an environment made up mainly of tropical forests, James Cameron will take us to meet the Metkayina in Avatar 2 and 3, people of the oceans, still on planet Pandora. Otherwise called “People of the Reef”, these beings will face the same challenges as the characters discovered in the first film: protecting the people, the family, and what means to use to guarantee your safety. A universal theme, that of the family, which will therefore be exploited in a new universe. And we already know that this new universe required innovations and cinematographic prowess to be put into images. A new image of this creation has been unveiled exclusively by Entertainment Weekly. This is a concept art which reveals quite closely a sea monster with a very nice appearance.
The marine equivalent of the Banshee?
As we had already glimpsed, the oceans of Pandora thus seem as rich and fascinating as the tropical forests shown in the first film. In the history ofAvatar 2, Jake and Neytiri have children. To protect their families, they will therefore go to the ocean side, a place that seems safe to them after the destruction of the Treehouse. This is indeed what seems to show this concept art. We see the two heroes perched on what appears to be a ship, and in front of them a child affectionately holding the head of a sea monster. It is thus very likely that this creature is the marine equivalent of the Banshee, the flying creature used by the Na’vi in Avatar to move.
As for this new world that came out of James Cameron’s imagination, its beaches and shores, producer Jon Landau simply defines it as a heavenly environment, a kind of “Bora Bora on steroids“.
Avatar 2 is expected December 14, 2022 in France, after more than a decade of design and production. Will it do better at the box office than its predecessor Avatar, long the biggest box office success in the world? We’re holding our breath, and can’t wait to find out.
