Rich in revelations, episode 20 of the final season of “Attack on Titan” was also deeply dramatic. Was it one of the saddest episodes of the animated series?

MAPPA

Please note, the following details the plot of episode 20 of Attack on Titan season 4, available on Wakanim and Crunchyroll. If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want to know anything about its content, then you are strongly recommended to stop reading this article now.

Last week, episode 19 of the final season of Attack on Titan turned our heads, revealing that Grisha – in possession of the powers of the Original – had finally taken the upper hand over his half-brother Eren. But events finally took a new turn with episode 20, largely devoted to the father of the two brothers: Doctor Grisha Jäger.

The first three seasons of the series had left us waiting to discover what secrets lay in the basement of the Jäger house; while exploring the place, Eren had ended up discovering the existence of another world than his own, which his father Grisha and his half-brother Sieg are from.

If the existence of Doctor Jäger was already tinged with a feeling of tragedy, episode 20 broadcast this Sunday drove the point home by revealing that the actions of the latter had not been dictated by his own will. … but by Eren’s! The powers of the Assailant Titan indeed offer its holder the possibility of drawing on the memories of his successor and therefore of being able to know the future.

It was therefore a father haunted by the existence of his own son who led to the execution of the Reiss clan and the recovery of the powers of the Original Titan. Haunted by his crimes, Dr. Jäger fulfilled his destiny by transferring his faculties to Eren (thus sacrificing his own life) and giving him all the information necessary to bring his fight to an end.

While he thought he had taken advantage of his half-brother, Sieg understood that Eren was finally one step ahead of him, a new turnaround that shocked many fans of the series. Here is a selection of the best reactions posted on social networks:

SNK’s most incredible foreshadowing:

Chapter 1: Grisha shows the key by looking away from the direction of the little Eren

11 years later: Grisha was looking in the direction of the adult Eren

In 2 episodes of SNK we went from Sieg Mastermind to Eren Mastermind when at first we thought Grisha was responsible for all this mess 💀 The Jäger family not one to catch up with the other..

Eren still has 0 pity with his family members. Basically, we can’t deny it, he fights to save his people, but he has no problem using Grisha and Sieg to get there. Grisha miskin…

For those who have trouble understanding. Grisha does not see eren and there is no time travel
Eren voluntarily/involuntarily transmits memories to him for his father. In this way Grisha sees future memories and he actually sees himself in the 3rd person.

Basically the special power of the assailant allows its holder to communicate with its predecessors, to influence the past through previous hosts of the attacking titan
In other words, it was the Eren of the future who made Grisha of the past slaughter the Reiss.
