At loggerheads : the first investigation of Benoit Blanc
In 2019, two years after signing Star WarsEpisode VII: The Last JediRian Johnson presents to the public an eccentric detective with At loggerheads. When he learns of the death of novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer), he goes to his mansion to lend a hand to Inspector Elliott (Lakeith Stanfield).
While everything suggests that the wealthy writer committed suicide, several signs put Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) on the trail ofa possible assassination committed to touch the inheritance. The reactions of Thrombey’s relatives when they learn that his nurse Marta (Ana de Armas) is the sole beneficiary of his will end up convincing Blanc that something is wrong.
The private therefore tries to discover the heavy family secrets which could be at the origin of the murder. Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon, Katherine Langford and Jaeden Martell play the suspects of this whodunit who seeks to twist the codes of the genre with irony.
Ana de Armas deemed ‘inexperienced’
When she spins At loggerheadsAna de Armas is not yet the international star she is becoming thanks to her performances in Blonde, Dying can wait or The Gray Man. Despite everything, she made a remarkable performance in blade runner 2049 and held roles in Knock-Knock and War Dogs.
The actress is therefore still in its infancy in the Hollywood industry, which does not escape Jamie Lee Curtis. The actress ofHalloween and True Lies even goes so far as to think that Ana de Armas is totally “inexperienced”. Embarrassed, she confesses her prejudices in the columns of the magazine SHE in July 2022:
I assumed – and I say this with great embarrassment – that she had just arrived, because she was from Cuba. I figured she was an inexperienced, unrefined young woman. On the first day of shooting, I asked him: “What would you dream of doing?”
If Jamie Lee Curtis asks this question to her acting partner, it is because she is impressed by her talent and she would like to introduce her to Steven Spielberg, convinced that she could play Maria in West Side Story.
