In 2016, the famous saga of video games “Assassin’s Creed” gave birth to a live film carried in particular by Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. The latter, however, confessed that she had never played one of these games… and it was seen!

Assassin’s Creed : Ubisoft’s ambitious project

Even being a neophyte of the world of video games, who has not heard of the series of Assassin’s Creed ? Present on consoles since 2007, this video game saga developed and published by Ubisoft, is probably one of the most popular of its time. Its easy gameplay, high-end graphics, exciting storyline and endlessly different historical context (depending on the episode), have fascinated millions of gamers for two decades now.

The first games thus follow Desmond Miles, an ordinary bartender of our time who happens to be the direct descendant of a line of Assassins. Kidnapped by a multinational, he is forced to use the Animus, a machine capable of reading the subject’s genetic memory, and go back to the memories of his ancestors. The player thus finds himself in the skin of various characters according to the episodes: Altair during the Third Crusade, Ezio Auditore da Firenze during the Renaissance or even Connor during the American Revolution.

An original film

Already producer of some live short films, Ubisoft decided to start an event feature film in the early 2010. The film is directed by Justin Kurzel, who delighted critics in 2015 with his Macbeth. For the occasion, the director also counts on the two stars who wore this feature film : Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

If initially, it was expected thatAssassin’s Creed adapts one of the episodes of the video game saga, the producers finally turned towards an original plot since this time, the feature film goes back and forth between the contemporary era and that of the Spanish Inquisition. The goal was to be able to avoid being strongly criticized by gamers, as often happens with movie adaptations of video games. A little successful bet sinceAssassin’s Creed was still tackled by critics and the public alike.

When Marion Cotillard tries her hand at gambling

In an interview published in The Guardian, Michael Fassbender confessed that he had never played video games. However, he had to take the levers in order to familiarize himself with this universe and the Assassins. However, he was not the only one who had no idea of the gameplay of this game.

Guest on the set of the show Day-to-day, Marion Cotillard also confessed that she knew absolutely nothing about the franchise before Ubisoft approached her to star in the film. Always mocking, the presenter Yann Barthès was therefore not asked to hand her a controller so that she can play one of the games. The result is certainly a little embarrassing …but very funny. Indeed, the companion of Guillaume Canet is absolutely incapable of leading his player and even less of moving him forward. A sequence oh so hilarious, showing that the star is much better actress than gamer.

We understand that Marion Cotillard was not passionate about video games. The latter mentioned it during an interview with SHE, reported by Purepeople. Indeed, in this number, she confides in her family life, affirming that the screen viewing time of her son Marcel is particularly limited. He therefore plays very little video games and especially watch a lot of movies. We do not laugh with the 7th Art at the Canet-Cotillards.
