To “The WitcherSeason 3 is apparently far from over: In September 2022, the shooting of the third season of the successful Netflix series was completed, but those responsible for “The Witcher’ can only rest for a moment. Then A real mammoth task will soon lie ahead of them: Seasons 4 and 5 are to be shot in one go! This is reported by the usually well-informed fan site Redanian Intelligence.
Such so-called back-to-back shooting is known from Hollywood from films such as the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “Avengers 3: Infinity War” and “Avengers 4: Endgame” or currently “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” and the three other “Avatar” sequels. Such mammoth shoots are somewhat rarer in series – mainly because the work on an entire season has taken so long anyway.
That “The WitcherSeason 4 and Season 5 are now to be written and filmed back-to-back, which is good news for fans on the one hand. An extension for “The Witcher“ after season 3 is not official yet, but on the sources of Redanian Intelligence is usually actually always reliable. And so Fans can look forward to not just one, but two more seasons with Geralt (Henry Cavill), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), Ciri (Freya Allen) and Co.
On the other hand, such back-to-back shoots always smell a little like farewell – see about the preliminary MCU highlight “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame’ or the two-part finale, which was also filmed at the end, in the young-adult series ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Twilight’ and ‘The Hunger Games’.
That would mean, however, that those responsible for the series around showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich the three remaining books of the “The Witcher“-novel series by Andrzej Sapkowski would have to be adapted in two seasons – possibly a bit much material.

An obvious explanation for the back-to-back shooting could also be that the next two volumes in the series – “Baptism of Fire” and “Der Schwalbenturm” – partly play parallel and have other main characters. In “Baptism of Fire” the main focus is on Geralt, in “Der Schwalbenturm” on the other hand Ciri. It is quite possible that half of the two books will be adapted in Season 4 and Season 5.
Noisy Redanian Intelligence The scripts for the fourth and fifth seasons are to be written soon. A start date for filming is not yet available, however appears to be a Netflix release of “The WitcherSeason 4 in December 2024 is therefore quite feasible. And should work actually continue without major interruption, Season 5 could then follow in 2025.
But that’s still music of the future. Much more concrete are the starts of “The Witcher: Blood Origin” (probably in December 2022) and “The Witcher“ Season 3 (probably in December 2023).
