Archive 81: the good surprise at the start of the year on Netflix
Available since January 14, the Netflix series Archives 81 has had great success on the platform. Indeed, it quickly climbed into the top 10 of the most-watched programs, including in France. Created by Rebecca Sonnenshine, the eight-episode series follows the character of Dan (Mamoudou Athie), a young archivist who agrees to restore mysterious old tapes filmed 25 years earlier by a young woman, Melody (Dina Shihabi), now missing.

He quickly realizes that these tapes attract him to a supernatural world involving a sect venerating a strange demon called Kaelego… Throughout the episodes, Dan realizes that he can save Melody from this “other world”.
The crazy theory about the end of the series
Thus, in the last episode, Dan manages to enter the other world, where Melody is. This famous parallel universe in which reigns Kaelego. Quickly, he manages to find her to bring her back to the real world, where his mother is waiting for him. But when taking the passage between the two worlds, Dan and Melody find themselves separated after Samuel’s intervention.
The latter arrives safe and sound in the real world, while Dan finds himself stuck in 1994, just after the Visser fire.
But Melody’s return may not be a good thing…
Indeed, as noted by this user on Reddit, in the other world, Kaelego only appears in Melody’s reflection. Dan doesn’t seem to see the demon, unlike her. According to the beliefs of the Vos sect, Kaelego needs a host to exist in the real world (hence the human sacrifices). It could therefore be that the demon has taken over Melody’s body and that he is now… in our world. This would explain why Samuel, a worshiper of Kaelego, brought Melody back and moved Dan away.
A starting point that it would be interesting to pursue in a possible season 2. Given the success of the first season of archives, 81there is a good chance that Netflix will formalize a sequel.
