Apparently, another great Hollywood comedian could in turn join the Marvel Cinematic Uninverse (MCU). Indeed, it is rumored that Bill Murray would be in the cast of “Ant-Man: Quantumania”.
Ant-Man: Quantumania – what do we know about the film?
Expected for July 2023, Ant-Man: Quantumania will be the third film of the saga Ant-Man. For the occasion, Peyton Reed is back behind the camera for a third time. Casting side, Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer, the two Ant-Men and the two Wasps, will all be back. Then, we also know that Jonathan Majors, introduced in the series Loki, will reprise the role of the mighty Kang the Conqueror. Logically, he should be the big bad in the movie.
We also know that Kathryn Newton replaces Emma Fuhrmann as Cassie Lang. The latter will be put forward more in the film of Peyton Reed and should even appear as Stature, his superheroic alter-ego. One way for Marvel Studios to prepare the ground for the arrival of the Young Avengers since his colleagues appear here and there in the various productions of the MCU (Wiccan and Speed in WandaVision, Patriot in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Kate Bishop in Hawkeye). At last, Ant-Man: Quantumania should logically serve as a conclusion to phase 4. Normally, the feature film will be linked to Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange 2, and will bring an end point to the arc of the multiverse.
Bill Murray in the MCU?
Now we have just learned that the cast of the film could grow. Indeed, according to Deadline, Bill Murray could appear in Ant-Man: Quantumania. In an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine, the actor has often hinted that he would be in the cast of Peyton Reed’s film. He said in particular, bluntly: “You know, I recently made a Marvel movie.”
The context of the question concerned his recurrence of working with the same type of director. Indeed, the actor was promoting The French Dispatch by Wes Anderson, with whom he regularly collaborated. Bill Murray thus explained why he liked to favor certain directors and did not hesitate to sing the praises of Peyton Reed, never openly citing his name:
I got to know the director. I really liked it very much. He was funny, humble, everything you would expect from a director. And with the cheerleader story in American Girls, he made a movie that I think is pretty darn good. So I accepted …
So there is indeed no doubt. American Girls was directed by Peyton Reed in 2001. Thus, Bill Murray will work with Peyton Reed, in a Marvel film; the parallel is not long to be drawn: Bill Murray will be in Ant-Man: Quantumania. However, don’t expect to see her in a recurring role, Bill Murray accepted the experience out of curiosity, and it won’t come back a second time:
I’m not really that keen on these huge comic book adaptations as an actor… Now I’ve at least tried to shoot a Marvel movie. But I don’t think I will need this experience a second time.
See you in 2023 to see Bill Murray in his first Marvel movie!
