Fifth collaboration between Vincent Lindon and Stéphane Brizé, “Another world” is above all their third film centered on the world of work and its violence. After “The Law of the Market” and “At War”, “Another World” is revealed as a trailer and arrives at the cinema on February 16, 2022.
Finish the work started with The law of the market
In 2015, Stéphane Brizé made a strong impression with his film The law of the market, a film on the violence in the working world and its collateral damage which extends in all dimensions of a life. To tell the story of a man who struggles to find and keep a job, trying somehow to keep his apartment and help his disabled son, the director entrusts the lead role to Vincent Lindon. This one, already very sure value of the French cinema, delivers a memorable performance which is worth to him the Best Actor Award at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and the César for Best Actor in 2016, his first in five nominations.
Comforted in its perspective, the duo reformed to In war in 2018, a personal tragedy that developed in the context of trade union struggles. Finally, and again, Stéphane Brizé directs Vincent Lindon in a third film which spins the same themes with Another world (trailer at the top of the article).
Vincent Lindon in professional and family distress
To close what looks like a trilogy on the world of work and its violence, Stéphane Brizé takes Vincent Lindon and an imposing cast – in particular Sandrine Kiberlain, Anthony Bajon and Marie Drucker – in a story where he is on the edge of total bankruptcy.
A business executive, his wife, his family, at a time when the professional choices of one are changing everyone’s life. Philippe Lemesle and his wife separate, a love damaged by the pressure of work. A successful executive in an industrial group, Philippe no longer knows how to respond to the inconsistent injunctions of his management. We wanted him yesterday as a leader, today we want him to be an executive. He is at the moment when he must decide the direction of his life.
We understand in these few images that everything is faltering for Philippe Lemesle, and that his professional difficulties have serious and persistent repercussions on his family. An ongoing dismissal plan, a painful separation, a son whose behavior escapes everyone … It is interesting to observe that between The law of the market, In war and Another world, the character played by Vincent Lindon will have known several different situations and identities, without any allowing him to escape the terrible violence of the world of work in which he tries to evolve, not even these where he appears as belonging to a dominant class.
Another world will be in theaters February 16, 2022.
