The Angoulême Francophone Film Festival will roll out its blue carpet, from August 24 to 29, 2021, to highlight French cinema and kick off the back-to-school season. Ask for the program!
The Angoulême Francophone Film Festival is about to inaugurate an edition that promises to be once again very promising. A large number of event films from this fall will be presented there, as well as many nuggets and discoveries, with the presence of many personalities, including Valérie Lemercier, Pierre Niney, Romain Duris, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Vanessa Paradis …
The jury will be chaired by Nicole Garcia. She will be surrounded by Antonin Baudry, Leïla Kaddour, Reda Kateb, Catherine Le Terrier, Oxmo Puccino, Marie Ndiaye, Philippe Van Leeuw and Noémie Schmidt.
As in 2020, despite the health crisis, the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival will indeed be able to maintain its edition thanks to a slightly different organization, in particular with, once again, an online cinema seat reservation system.
The event led by Dominique Besnehard and Marie-France Brière will offer a vast panorama of French and French-speaking production, as evidenced by the competition and other non-competitive sections.

Note that Sigourney Weaver, who was to be one of the festival’s guests of honor, had to cancel his visit. The US federal health agency has indeed advised its US nationals against travel to France. The agent of the actress transmitted this information to the festival:
“Due to professional obligations at the end of September and taking into account the protocols related to the Covid, Madame Weaver has been asked to restrict her travel and, therefore, she will not be able to attend the Angoulême Festival as planned. She hopes to be able to participate in this great French-speaking festival in the future and wishes her every success.. “The planned tribute is however maintained with the screenings of Une femme ou deux by Daniel Vigne, Dix pour Cent – season 4 – episode 5, and My year in New York by Philippe Falardeau.
Recall that it was the feature film Ibrahim by Samir Guesmi, which won the Valois de Diamant, the highest award at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival 2020. The aptly named Un Triomphe, led by Kad Merad, second feature film from Angoulême. Emmanuel Courcol after Cease-fire, had also had a nice success. He left with the coveted Audience Award, and two of his performers were also distinguished, Sofian Khammes and Pierre Lottin. Un Triomphe will be released on September 1, 2021.
