Andrew Garfield played the Spider-Man character in the two “Amazing” films released in 2012 and 2014. He has since given way to Tom Holland but made a notable appearance in “No Way Home”. Would he be ready to step back into the weaver’s skin again? He recently responded.
Andrew Garfield: two small canvases and then goes
In 2012, Andrew Garfield became the new face of Spider-Man. He succeeds Tobey Maguire, and signs for a new trilogy. Unfortunately for the actor, only two films are released at the cinema : The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man: A Hero’s Fate.
Indeed, he is quickly replaced by Tom Holland, who officially becomes the MCU’s Spider-Man. It is introduced in Captain America: Civil War in 2016 and appeared in three solo films, the last of which, No Way Home, is currently in theaters. A blow for Andrew Garfield, who confided last November not to keep very good memories of his participation in these two films.
Still, he agreed to return as Spider-Man in No Way Home, alongside Tobey Maguire, to lend a hand to Tom Holland. Two returns that particularly touched the fans, as evidenced by the crazy reactions of the first sessions of the film. Since then, Andrew Garfield’s love for Spider-Man has returned to good shape. A petition has even been launched for a third film with the latter.
Would he be ready to come back? He answers
Faced with this return of hype, the actor who could well land an Oscar nomination for his role in Tick, Tick … Boom! was interviewed by Variety on his possible return in Spider-Man. And his answer might surprise some:
Yes I’m ready to come back if it’s worth it. Peter and Spider-Man are real good characters, with good intentions. He is a little one from Queens who knows the hardships of life, the loss of a loved one, and who is infinitely empathetic. I would be inspired by that if I were to come back to tell more stories. I would have to be sure of myself.
If Tom Holland is still the Spider-Man of the MCU (for a long time to come), we saw that the multiverse offered huge opportunities. So it’s not impossible to see Andrew Garfield donning the spider-man costume again.
