All in talent and discretion, Andrew Garfield brilliantly returned to the front of the stage. Heartbreaking in the role of composer Jonathan Larson in “Tick, Tick … Boom!”, He has just been awarded the Golden Globe for best actor in a musical for this performance.
Andrew Garfield, a prolific year 2021
Andrew Garfield, American-British actor revealed to the general public in 2010 with The Social Network by David Fincher, made its comeback in 2021. He was indeed on the bill of two great successes : musical comedy Tick, Tick … Boom! by Lin-Manuel Miranda and the box from Sony and Marvel Spider-Man: No Way Home by Jon Watts. Two very different films which allowed him to show the extent of his acting register, and which revived the attention of both critics and the (very) general public. Indeed, the resumption of his role of Spider-Man, which he had held the time of the two films The Amazing Spider-Man, in 2012 and 2014, was one of the nicest surprises of the past year.
A Golden Globe for his performance in Tick, Tick … Boom!
On the night of January 9-10, 2022, the 79th Golden Globes ceremony was held. But it was a special edition and without any pomp, held behind closed doors. Indeed, with the health crisis still ongoing and a major internal crisis, the organizers preferred to remain discreet. There was therefore only a succession of tweets to announce the winners and a gradual update of the Golden Globes site.
On the cinema side, two films stood out, each with 3 awards. The Power of the Dog (Best Dramatic Film, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor) and West Side Story (Best Musical, Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Supporting Actress). And concerning the best actor in a musical, Andrew Garfield was therefore crowned for his great performance in Tick, Tick … Boom!. Regarding the best actor in a dramatic film, it was Will Smith who was awarded for The Williams Method.
A great recognition for Andrew Garfield, who therefore holds his first major award. An encouraging sign for the next Oscars ceremony? The bets are open…
